The time code for both should be identical, if they shot it properly it should be the same time code synced on both.

    its not.
telecine has kinda abstract timecode, not connected anyhow with slate timecode. more, nobody works in this country in ntsc, so nobody knows exactly whats going on.
so – the situation is: Nagra V BWF files with roll and tc, and MOS tape labroll with glued together continious camrolls. sync done on different system… but how to create ale database in that system? what codes should be? is theres a way to include tc for digitizing, and keep original nagra’s metadata?

The only thing I can be sure of at this point is. I produced many videos with no time code on the nagra. We relied solely on the slate clacks for syncing. Sometimes missing by a frame or so and just adjusting accordingly. It is time consuming, but you can do it. Even did a few without a good slate to work with. Those were even more time consuming, but after a while you get really good at lip reading.

many thanks for you, Charlie, but there’s no any problem to get in sync. i do sync on fcp system, then trying to send it to film editor on adrenaline. i cant get a clue how to preserve original timecode, or how to digitise from .ale database in avid. all audio is on the hard drives/dvd’s at moment.

Import ALE file for picture capture.
Drag and Drop BWF files into bin. Timecode will be decoded durting imnport from the files.
Copy START timecode from BWF files into AuxTC1
Copy smartslate timecode into AuxTC1 for picture
AutoSync based on common timecode found in AuxTC1

You can farther refine sybc on 1/’4 frame basis by using 1/4 frane resync butons found on the tool pallette under EDIT.

    thank you very much!
but… its 24p project, so what happening with pulldown? i mean 23.98 vs 24 when telecine? files are 30 NDF…

That’s whay you work in a 24p project and not 23.976. SInce the original shooting rate and recording rate were 24fps with 48kHz, this project type preserves that relationship regardless of telecine tapes being 23.976. When capturing 23.976 in a 24fps project, the playback speed is automatically returned to 24fps to be in sync with original production audio.

see my article on project types for the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild:
