    Hi,

I’m setting up templates that many people will need to pick up from to carry out jobs in a Mac workflow.
The workflow is first taken by Graphics Dept (to change the text and set the right icons etc.) then the file is saved onto other workstations for the editors to pick up and insert the footage.

The problem is that I’d like to avoid having to collect the project and give that to the editors all the time (avoiding using too much space on HD and wasting time as there’ll be literelly hundreds going through). I’d also like to avoid pointing to a server to help speed of playback and safety.

Is there a way that when the editors pick up the project, the Mac workstation always knows where to find the footage and files without having to point to the “missing files” all the time. Obviously the files will be exactly the same i.e. duplicates on another workstation.

Thanks in advance to any solutions… hope you can help

I’d think that if the path to the files were the same, then there should be no problem. They should be:

    – placed on a drive with the same name
    – placed in a folder path with the same names

So everyone involved (except you!) would have to get new external drives or rename existing drives.

… or maybe create new partitions and give them identical names.

    That’s so simple…nice one!

I haven’t tried it yet but can imagine it works perfectly with the Users/Shared folder on Macs.

    I’ll give it a go tomorrow…

    Many many thanks

Good plan. As long as the system drives all have the same names it should be fine … ?

Let us know what happens. 🙂

Looks positive so far… as long as all main hard drives (that the OS is running from) is always the same e.g. “Macintosh HD”. It’s certainly the easiest solution and where every workstation has all the elements always in the same place – easy to find!

    Thanks for all your help
