I am running on a MacBook Pro using Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 i’m pretty sure the latest of the final cut. But I am trying to edit a video that has never been anywhere except for on my M-Book. Whenever i try and open the project I get the error message “File format is too new for this version of the app.” I have tried just opening the file through where it is saved but still getting nothing. Please help!!!!

The latest FCP is 6.0.5. have you run any other system or Pro App updates recently? There was a bug that caused this, cant remember if it was 6.0.1. Time to update Final Cut.

First try a full shut down and restart.

Yeah after I posted I did a shutdown and restart. Still nothing and after finding nothing I did a update check and did not see anything related. How would i update to 6.0.5 if i’m not seeing it in apple symbol>Software Update…

We had this problem at our facility when we were on an earlier version of FCP 6. I believe we got around it by opening the project from our Autosave Vault located in Users>Documents>Final Cut Pro Documents>Autosave Vault. There you should be able to find your autosaved project folder and open the newest version of that project. Our work flow was, when that worked, to Save As the project so as not to be confused with the older one that would not open.

    good luck,

    Victor

    Hi Josh,
I think that projects from FC 6.0.3 on ward can not be open by FC 6.0.1/2.
    A good reason to update.
FC 6.0.1 is one of the buggiest FC version. was updated after just few weeks.
FC 6.0.5 is working really well with QT 7.6

Software Update doesn’t see the Final Cut downloads as valid if you don’t have the proper version of the OS and QuickTime. I Imagine that if you update to at least 10.5.5 and QT 7.5.5 FCS updates will be come available.

Consensus is generally that it is better to download the combo updates than let software update handle it.
