    Hi,

Tomorrow I start the online of a doc for UK TV.

I’ve offlined the sequence at DV PAL.

The footage is a mixture of DV, HDV, DigiBeta (all PAL)

I am thinking of using 8-bit uncompressed for my online sequence setting (on a Mac with and AJA box).

As per a previous post, I intend to conform the Digi footage, (which is currently at DV resolution) but not conform the DV and HDV.

So, my DV sequence is lower field first.

I see that if I go for uncompressed, I can choose whether the sequence is lower or upper field first. Does this make a difference? Can I online at uncompressed Lower field first ok?

Basically, when I edited the HDV footage in to the DV sequence, FCP threw a “shift fields” filter on to the clips.

If I change the sequence settings to uncompressed and then re-dig. what will happen to those clips? I’d rather not be in the situation where I have to remove that shift fields filter from every HDV clip.

Hope that makes sense! My brain is a bit addled after a six week offline edit!

    Tim

All HD is upper field first, so your sequence will be upper field first and the other formats will either be adjusted by FCP with the shift fields filter added automatically, or you have to do if you up-res the footage yourself.

And in PAL all codecs HD or SD are upper field EXCEPT DV which is a total balls up and cause of much grief.

Go 10 bit uncompressed if your drives are fast enough as you will get less banding and better grey scale resolution in grading.

So, if I modify the sequence pre-set for uncompressed SD PAL (8-bit or 10-bit) and change the field order from upper first to lower first, what happens?

Just trying to get it clear in my head before I start for real this morning.

The field order for the Uncompressed must be upper. All your material except the DV footage is correct field order and all the DV footage will need the shift fields filter.
