the latest iMac seems to get really good reviews for fcp x.

    Imacs (i7); Canon 5D Mark III/70D, Panasonic HPX250P, FCP X 10.3, teach video production in L.A.

    Hi there!

I am experiencing the same issue.
I don’t think it’s the computer, I think it’s some kind of bug in FCPX with R3D footage.
First, I thought it was freezing because of the external storage unit, my footage was on.
But after moving the whole thing, I started digging and found your thread.
I am working on an iMac Pro, 128gb RAM, 18 cores and the best graphics card, so I’m pretty sure it is not a hardware related problem.
I also work with 4K R3D footage, trying to put on the Flow transition.
When I changed the view to proxy, it worked just fine, but I really want to export in full quality.
The Apple customer service was no help at all, for he did not even know what R3D footage was…
I hope someone will fix this issue.

Sorry to open this back up, but I thought maybe it is of interest for you guys.
Or maybe you came up with a solution?

    Regards,

    Benjamin

optical flow can become corrupted sadly. i had this several times on different machines. optical flow would completely stop working and any speed adjustment (or flow transition for that matter) would either be not rendered and just apply frame blending or end up in “beach-balling”.

i could only solve it by creating a new, fresh user account and work in fcpX from there – or go through a complete clean install of the system (no repair, no upgrade, a “format c:” process). after that it was all peachy.
