FCPX 10.0.6 issues
Posted by Olly Lawer on November 1, 2012 at 9:07 amJust downloaded the new FCPX.
Couple of issues.
1. When I click in the timeline, it will select the clip, but will not move the playhead, unless I actually click on the top timecode bar. Very frustrating. I’ve tried various different options.
2. When I export, there doesn’t seem to be a share monitor to tell me my progress. How do I know when my video will be complete? It’s progress?

November 1, 2012 at 10:17 amI see you haven’t read or watched a tutorial about the update and its changes.
Apparently as requested by users the action of the playhead has been changed to be the opposite of what it was. Most users wanted the playhead to stay where it was most of the time so the action between selecting a clip and the playhead has been reversed. Now, the playhead stays where you parked it unless you press the Option key when you make your clip selection.
As for the Share monitor it is where it’s always been. Just click on the progress circle next to the timecode display in the middle of the interface just above the timeline. Sharing progress is in there. You know, that circle that tells you normally how rendering the timeline is progressing.
Steve Martin has an excellent video series for not much money on just the .6 update at RippleTraining.com, or you can read his excellent article for free at:

November 19, 2012 at 2:20 pmThank you for posting the information on the Playhead change. I did actually look at numerous reviews of 10.0.6 and didn’t see it mentioned anywhere, including in the text version of the Steve Martin (no relation) article you referenced.
I would love to see Apple allow that change as an option for the one handed editors out there like me, and would like to have seen them list “Behavior Changes Which Will Affect Your Editing With Every Click” more prominently than “Awesome New $25,000 Camera Support Features” in the release notes.
But that’s just me.
I have also noticed several times where my audio has gotten louder and louder and louder on playback within FCP as it crosses over Bladed clips, if each of the clips was independently audio corrected. If I stop, the audio returns to normal. It’s not consistent, but has happened more than once. I have also more or less lost the ability to hit the + or – button surrounding the timeline duration slider (controlling how much of the footage is shown in the timeline at one time). It doesn’t control things most of the time, requiring use of the slider by hand, which is less than precise.
I do like some of the other new features, however. The Multi-clip Blade (Sh-Cmd-B) is awesome for poor man “multi-cam” when you’ve got inputs that either don’t match or don’t have TC or you just don’t have space or time to deal with multicam on a quick and dirty project.

November 19, 2012 at 2:30 pmZooming the timeline remains the same at Shift-(plus or minus) as long as the timeline is the active window.
