    Hey guys,

Been seeing my name thrown a lot in this forum lately. I’m at turns flattered, amused, and baffled. Regardless, I’ve got a put up or shut up moment this weekend. You’re all invited:

    https://www.fcpworks.com/special_event/

Apple will be doing an official presentation, and so will BMD, AJA, Quantum, and hopefully a couple special guests we’re still locking down, as well as a whole bunch of faces from the FCP community you’re used to seeing.

At the end of the day, our goal is not to convert you if you use Avid or Premiere. They’re great programs and work for a whole lot of editors out there. We will simply present an alternate way of working, and we’re hoping some you out there will find some benefit. We’ve got quite a few cool things to show, the event is free, and if you come to the evening session, there’s even an open bar. What do you have to lose?

So… I’m hoping some of you will come out, watch the presentation, ask some questions, and really decide for yourselves whether what we’re doing has any merit. I happen to think it does… but that’s just me. Worst case scenario… there’s free beer. Hope to see some of you there.

    Break a leg out there.

Will the event be recorded and posted for the world to see? And by the world, I mean, me?

Yes – good luck with your event Sam.

And taking up on Jeremy’s point it would be great to see some of the presentations, especially Apple’s one, posted online for those of us unable to take up your kind invitation.

I’m in the UK and can’t find my passport!

[Sam Mestman] “there’s even an open bar”

Will it be open for the morning session? I’ve developed quite a drinking problem reading some of the threads here over the last couple weeks…

    Sam,

Just logging in again to wish you all the best with this. And I agree, the quality of the threads on this forum has not really improved over the past few weeks. Sad for the regular posters here who have all my respect. But it’s always good for a laugh during the coffee break (-:

Thanks so much for the support, guys. We’re definitely hoping to post something from the event. Details are still being worked out. The Apple presentation is probably unlikely to go up (sorry), but hopefully the other parts of the main presentation will be… however, there’s going to be quite a few other things that definitely won’t make it out there. We’ve got some cool stuff planned for those in attendance… especially for those of you with FCP7 nostalgia.

Hi there, best of luck with the meet.

Seeing as how I might have been one of the people who mentioned your name there recently – I guess I might as well ask: what is happening with the hundred million dollar big six studio feature being cut exclusively on X as related by Larry Jordan in Amsterdam after extensive deiscussions with yourself and the editor for the hundred million dollar feature?

When are we likely to hear more on that do you think? Larry said weeks, and that you yourself were temporarily locked by an NDA. It’s been around four months now. You must be dying to give a really detailed update.

It’s not really my place to say anything without a client’s official approval, whether it be a studio, indie filmmaker, or network show. I never gave a timeline to release updates for anything that I have going on.

This can be read either as a conspiracy… or as simply respecting the people i work with’s preferences.

I realize people want all the details of stuff people are doing in the real world… and i’m happy to share so long as I don’t get anyone angry with me in the process.

Watch my metadata video on LACPUG for some real world things people are using for project prep.

Well, I hope you are at least planting some 2.0 journalists that can report to the rest of us plebs suffering in the FCS3-Anon club how cool we are for using FCPX, at least from a distance.

[Sam Mestman] “It’s not really my place to say anything without a client’s official approval, “

buts thats a tad odd – to be clear – you gave an interview to larry jordan, and he was under the impression that news of this hundred million dollar big six studio release feature cut entirely on X, as he learnt from direct discussion with yourself, would be forthcoming in weeks. It just seems that everything was vague enough that no one had an idea what feature you were talking about, and as I say, its four months later now, and neither you nor he have said another word about this hundred million dollar big six studio feature cut entirely on FCPX.

Honestly speaking, it all could be seen as perhaps a little odd. Particularly given the useful size of the news splash within the pro community generated in the process.
