  • FCP/Aja Io Bars and Tone (SMPTE bars) out to Videotek VTM-200

When I generate Bars and tone from FCP the Waveform of the VTM-200 looks fine but the vector lines are way short of the targets yet the imnage on all monitors looks great. Is this because it’s digital and not analog?

    TIA

The VTM-200 has multiple setups on it. You can set the VTM-200 (and all vectorscopes) to 75% bars and 100% bars. The Videotek VTM-200 vectorscope function must be set to 75% bars. I don’t care if you are using an AVID, an old linear suite, and old Grass Valley color bar generator like the SCB-100N, a Horita test generator, or the AJA. Set your vectorscope setup in the scope (read the damn manual) to 75% bars, and it won’t fall short on the targets on the vectorscope.

Videotek VTM-200 has multiple inputs – for both analog and Digital – inputs A and B are analog inputs, and inputs C and D are SDI digital inputs. The videotek VTM-200 is a wonderful external scope, and it can monitor BOTH the analog and digital outputs of the AJA product. It’s Sunday today, so forget your damn life, and READ THE MANUAL.

    Biker,

FYI 100% saturation on bar is the standard for HD but the more common approach is to use 75% saturation.

In the world of Standard def 75% bars is the common standard.

The easy check is the bars vector fall short of their targets.
