    Hi!

I need to colorgrade a project which looks like this:

a FCP7 Sequence with up to 4 Layers. Each Layer, except the lowest Layer (=Background), has an integrated Alpha channel. The clips are in ProRes4444 (keyed and rotoscoped stuff from AE).
In FCP i did the final edit and “compositing”.
Exporting XML and conforming that in Resolve works, but “kills” my Alpha-Channels because Resolve ignores embedded Alphas.
So i need to create a separate Alpha-matte for each clip (which means a lot of additional work) and add
that as external matte in resolve. Works, but is not very comfortable…

Sending back to FCP is , in this case, also painful.
i haven´t found a way to render out a file with alpha (embedded nor separate).
The only way out is now via “Target”-Mode : means Resolve renders out a single-file which contains all layers. So i can´t do any further (minimal) tweaks in FCP7 (moving/changing Backgrounds etc.).

Is there a way how i can improve this workflow?
    – Any way to render Alphas out of resolve or a generally smooher roundtrip preserving alphas?

    Thanks in advance,
    daniel

[Daniel Boist] “a generally smooher roundtrip preserving alphas?”

Imbed the original ProRes4444 with alpha on a layer under your graded clip and you can still use the original clip as an alpha multiplier for the new one.
