FCP7 reads files but blank canvas and no audio
I am new to FCP so this is all new to me. I have a panasonic video camera that records in .MOD format. FCP wont read these files so I have been playing around with all sorts of ways of converting the files to .mp4, .avi etc I tried MPEG Streamclip because evryone was raving about it but this produced a blank canvas, so I moved onto Handbrake which produced .mp4 files (which aren’t read by FCP). I have now downloaded ffmpegx 0.0.9y and tried converting the files into .avi (this time FCP reads/accepts the files but produces only the coorect time and a blank canvas with no audio) tearing my hair out any suggestions please?

FCP does not edit this media. You need to convert to QuickTime using the correct editing codec, frame resolution, and frame rate. What those might be are determined by exactly what the original media specs are.

Try to change the “.mod” extension by “.mpg”, then try to open them in MPGStreamclip.
And PLEASE if you intend to edit or reprocess these files convert them to any editable codec.
Don’t convert them to MP4, H264, AVI or so.

Just look at your FCP Easy Setups. They are all the codecs editable in FCP.
