  • FCP7: How to edit only audio without unlinking?

Sometimes I just want to edit the audio and not the video when I’m making tweaks. Is there a fast way to only select the audio without unlinking using Shift-L? I am not sure if you guys are familiar with Premiere but in Premiere you can select only the audio or the video by holding OPT. Is there a similar function in FCP7?

You can lock the video track.
The small lock icon at the left.

Hold down “Option/ALT” when trimming on the timeline. This will allow you to move the video or audio in/out points independently without unlinking them.

Unless you have linked selection turned off in which case it’s exactly the opposite.

    yes.
weird you didn’t just try it!

    ALSO

Shift L will turn off timeline linking.
the result of this is that video & audio behave as if independent,
and in this mode, when you hold OPTION they behave as if linked, a reverse of the default situation.
