FCP6 + AJA iO-LA + Edit to Tape = No Video?
Posted by E. Eric johnson iii on September 6, 2007 at 11:51 pm…and then depression set in.
OK, it’s been awhile since i’ve used my iO-LA, but i’ve gone through every setting to double check that life is good (525 component betacam) everything lines up all is going fine, then when i drop my sequence in “edit to tape” the always entertaining “preview disabled” bars show up and that’s the end of the video.
i’ve checked & rechecked my cables, the iO control panel says life is good, i’ve even uninstalled/reinstalled the iO drivers and setups and still nothing.
this is the first time i’ve used the iO with FCP6… is there something (obviously) i don’t know?
all help encoraged & appreciated,
eric

Have you downloaded the latest drivers from the AJA website? They changed when FCP 6 came out.

September 7, 2007 at 12:44 amhi waqlter,
thanks for getting back to me so quickly…
on the aja website the latest iO drivers have a release date of 4/4/2006. should i be looking for another version elsewhere?
as far as the A/V “different output” setting… i’ve been there. not that.
any other ideas?

September 7, 2007 at 5:11 amJust to throw a couple “just to make sure’s”
Make sure you have Editing and not Mastering selected from the pull down menu in the Edit to Tape window. (That one’s gotten me before).
I had a very similar thing happen to me with my AJA I/O, and a cycling of power on the AJA and a relaunch did the trick.
Good luck!

Nope. Just to be sure, you installed the LA version and you installed the NTSC-US not NTSC-Japan version?
Other than that, a power cycle on the Io is all I can think of and also ensure you have no other Firewire A/V device turned on like a DV deck that is also connected to the computer.

September 7, 2007 at 2:59 pmhello walter & crew,
thank you for your help and here’s where i stand:
after relaunches, power cycles and more setup checks here’s what i ended up doing. i have FCP 5.1.4 on my powerbook. so i moved the file from the G5 and output component from the powerbook. phew, project delivered on deadline.
still frustrated with the FCP6 scenario i went back and was able to do the following: select “ALA-IO LA Composite 8bit Uncompressed” and i got it to output. here’s the wacky part… it will not output component nor s-video? even after restarts/recycles.
is anyone else experiencing this or am i just lucky?
thanks for your help and any input is always welcome.

September 7, 2007 at 3:05 pmHave you called AJA Tech support? I just used our AJA IoLA last week for about 20 hours of work and it worked perfectly on our Mac Pro, FC Studio 2, all the latest updates.
Maybe something is failing in your system?

September 7, 2007 at 7:29 pmhi walter…
i’m beginning to think it’s something somewhere in my system. since i’m about maxed-out with my G5 dual and ’bout due for the intel world.
if i pony-up, what’s the best setup in your opinion? BTW i do everything from mobile devices to DVCProHD.
thanks for your patience and help,
eric

September 13, 2007 at 5:49 pmI went to the AJA website and under FAQ it mentioned deleting any codec that are not the FCP codec. Indeed I had a free trial avid program and a blackmagic control neither that I use and upon deleting I started getting audio and video when editing to tape.

thanks for the heads-up (and the research). i’m gonna re-check what codecs i have installed and see if that’s the trick. i hope it’s OE and not my sstem.
thank you for hanging with the thread.
