  • FCP4.5 crashes while loading a FCP project – HELP

Posted by Thomas Yong on October 1, 2005 at 5:50 am

    Hi forum,
I have been editing two short films using wo separate external Hard Drives (D2Lacie and Lacie Porche) connected to my Mac. I am running Mac G4 1.25DP, 1gig RAM, Sony DSR11, Sony broadcast monitor. I am running Mac OS X.3.9.

Everything went really well with these two projects. Howeverm two weeks ago I accidently accepted an automatic security and Quicktime update . I now run Quicktime in version 7.2 (or something).

When I tried to load my FCP project into FCP4.5HD, FCP4.5HD starts to opens and the program gets uploaded until 13% then the program crashes. THis also happens with my other project.

Anyone who has some explanations of what can be done???

I reinstalled OX10.3.9 and then I reinstalled Final Cut Pro 4.5HD. But still the system crashes………

    HEEEELLPPPPPPP.
    Thanks
    THomas

You need to remove QT 7. It doesn’t work with FCP 4.5.

Reinstalling the OS or FCP won’t necessarily overwrite QT7

    or

    https://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime652reinstallerforquicktime701.html

depending on which version of QT 7 was installed.

    Debe,
    Thanks for your response.
QuickTime was in QT 6.5.1 so I took it to QT7.02. I used your links to take it down to QT7.01 and then to QT6.5.2.
But I still can’t load my FCP projects. Not even from the AutoSave vault.

    Help………

Sorry to leave you hanging, Thomas. I’ve been having troubles with Creative Cow occasionally where it won’t load. I get access to other parts of the internet, and when I finally can get back in to the Cow, there are lots of new posts, so it’s not that the site was down…it’s just for some reason I can’t get in.

Anyway, have you tried trashing preferences and repairing permissions? Repairing permissions is especially important after installing/uninstalling software.

Repairing permissions is done in Disk Utility usually located in [main hard drive]>Applications>Utilities.

For info on trashing prefs, look at this site…

    https://www.lafcpug.org/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

The following is a nifty little program that stores and trashes prefs for you. Just be careful backing up the first time. Make sure you’re backing up clean prefs.
