FCP X.1.4 – can it run on Mountain Lion?
Hi,
Hope you all are doing well.
I’m preparing to purchase and install FCP X on my imac, but apple says I need to have at least Mavericks, and I’m on X.8.5. There doesn’t seem to be any roundabout way to get Mavericks, I should have updated last year. If I go straight to Yosemite, I will be forced to buy an upgrade for Avid Media Composer, a useless expense.
Has anybody tried FCP X.1.4 on Mountain Lion? Is there any chance it would function?My system is
imac 27″ – OS X .8.5 – 2,8 Ghz Intel Core i7 – Memory 4 Go 1067 MHz DDR3
Unfortunately I don’t operate with usb 3 or Thunderbolt. I can boost to 8 Go though.
I use my system primarily for teaching and training. If speed is a problem, I can always to to proxy.Thanks for your input, it will be much appreciated.

Unfortunately I haven’t seen FCPX 10.1.4 run in ML, only Yosemite. I think there were lots of under the hood things added to the latest X that are integrated with Yosemite.

You’re welcome!
You know, one thing you could do is clone your system drive and keep it as a backup to use when you have to use Avid, and then upgrade your main drive to Yosemite. This way you don’t have to buy an upgrade for Avid and hopefully, maybe, you won’t have to use Avid again :). Even something like a USB 3 passport drive would ‘probably’ be good enough for this.
