  • FCP X support Panasonic P2 mxf files or not !!

    Hi Guys,
    I’m using FCPX ver:10.0.

For last 15days, i have trying to import Panasonic P2 files & mxf files but i’m unable to do that, as all of you know that there are two types of mxf formats. 1)OP-atom(recording format with containing folders from P2 Cam, 2) OP1a(A/V embedded format).

I want to import these two category of files to the FCP X timeline unfortunately FCP X is not importing, i like to know that-

1)is there any option have in the FCPX? so that i can import it natively?
2)can i export it to mxf OP1a(A/V embedded mix down format)?

Let me know if you have any idea.

You have to use the Import from Camera function. This is like Log and Transfer in FCP7. It will copy and wrap your AVC-Intra or DVCPROHD files as QT movies.

    Hi there,

I am having the same problem. Have 3 weeks of footage from Uganda about the African Children’s Choir I am dying to view and start transcribing.

I tried the Import from Camera function but the MXF files are still showing up in grey and not clickable?

    Please help! Thanks so much!

    Best,
    Erin

It doesn’t need any plugin to import P2 MXF to FCPX from the camera directly to Final Cut Pro X, but it needs to be done straight out of the camera.

If you have stored the MXF files to iMac, you have to use a MXF Converter to transcode P2 MXF to FCP’s native format ProRes before transferring.

Do you have recorded some 1080 60p, 50p AVCHD videos? How to get them to edit with iMovie?

FCPX says they have native support for MXF files, but sometime you may still fail to import some MXF or P2 MXF files into it. In this case, you can convert MXF/P2 MXF to prores and then import into FCP X. And for MXF converter, TransMXF is good.

Actually, no they don’t. MXF requires a plug-in, such as those from Hamburg Pro Audio.

I have some Panasonic P-2 MXF files where I dragged over the card contents (with the correct file structure and LAST CLIP file)
I need to transcode it to ProRes. I purchased the UFU Soft MXF Converter for Final Cut -X.
I can’t get it to work. I can see the video content and convert the files but it is sped up. It seem to think it was 30 fps when it was shot at 24. If it slow it down in the Final Cut Timeline you can see frames missing.

Another issue is that the Panasonic HVX shoots 4 tracks of audio and I must keep those discrete because the two onboard mic tracks are all noise. Normally I just delete them but UFU Soft MXF Converter is only giving me stereo. (Useless)

Reviews say this utility works fine but I can’t get ti to work. Anyone have success with it?
