I’ve decided to take the plunge and really learn FCPX and stop complaining.

I really love creating simple animations in photoshop. Animating layers in the FCP timeline is great. Very simple things. I am just wondering what the best workflow is at this time for importing PSD files into FCP X. I have searched the internet low and high and have not found anything definitive.

I understand that going into Motion 5 is the answer…A detailed workflow on how best to accomplish this would be awesome.

    Thanks

FCP does not import Photoshop layers, only the flattened file. Motion imports the layers. Import the file into Motion. Animate the layers. Export the project for use in FCP. FCP cannot import a Motion project BTW, only one published as an effect, which is another way into FCP. But for a one off animation probably exporting ProRes 4444 if you need transparency, or ProRes if not is the simplest solution.

    All the best,

    Tom
