BG: Adjustment Layers in FCP X

“BG What’s in the Broadcast Safe?”

This is an FCP X “Adjustment Layer” made from a Motion title preset.

This preset gives you a….unsurprisingly…A Broadcast Safe Filter.

I had already incorporated this into a previous filter, but it had a number of other different functions as well. So I wanted this in it’s own filter, so that it was as “light-weight” as possible.

With a small bit of sneaky rigging in Motion, this preset gives you something that doesn’t come with the
standard Broadcast Safe filter from Motion.

The standard filter only gives you the choice between Luminance or Saturation as a fix method.

This preset has been rigged so that the default fix method is both Luminance & Saturation at the same time.

    – Broadcast Safe activation
    – Pal or NTSC
    – Luminance, Saturation or Both as a fix method.
    – Piece of mind knowing your video is kept within broadcast goodness.

An important note, or disclaimer if you like. A Broadcast Safe filter is not a magic fix. You should obviously be making sure your colour corrections are primarily within broadcast acceptable levels anyway – without the use of a Broadcast Safe filter.

A Broadcast Safe filter can introduce unacceptable artefacts to your picture if you are asking it to do too much. You have been warned! 🙂
