  • FCP Will NOT Update Using ProApp 2008-5

Posted by Craig Santy on May 26, 2009 at 3:49 pm

    Hi guys,
I am adding FCP to a new MacBook I own.
The version I use on my old MacBookPro is 6.0.5
The version I installed is 6.0.1 (thats the version I own)
I need both computers to be running on 6.0.5 so I can work on the same project on both when needed.
I went to the apple support page and downloaded the update to my new laptop:
    ProApplicationsUpdate2008-05.dmg
It downloaded, and SAID it installed all of the new updates. (11 mb)
However, when I ran my FCP on the new laptop, it was still the old version.
FCP will open from the dock…(vs. 6.0.1)
But if I go to applications, there is an error graphic over the icon, and when clicked, it says it is “not supported on this architecture”.
And I don’t know what that means, since the MAC guys said this Macbook Pro is fine for running FCP.
    MacBook Info:
    OSX VS. 10.5.7
2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 2gb 1067 MHz DDR3

I have read every thread I could find, and based on that I have:
    Restarted the new laptop
Re downloaded and re installed the update file (listed above).
    Updated Quicktime to vs. 7.6
    Checked for software updates.

I hate to me a bore, but I noticed that this is a common problem for many people trying to update FCP and share work files.

Could someone walk us through this process Step by Step, so that we can get on to what we do best… MAKING GREAT VIDEOS!

    Thank you so very much.

    Craig,

The updating process is done in series fashion, with some elements requiring that other elements be updated first. So for example, unless the QT and OS updates are installed first, the ProApps update may not work. For this reason, using Apple’s automatic updates to update to the most recent releases is a whole lot easier that trying to target your machines to a specific set of updates that are not the most current.

    Thanks,
But Based on what I have done so far…
I just really need a step by step set of instructions to fix the problem.
    Thanks

Try running software update again. It’s usually a good idea to keep running software update until it stops presenting new updates.

[Craig Santy] “It downloaded, and SAID it installed all of the new updates. (11 mb) “
    What means that, 11 MB?
The Pro App 2008-5 is 149 MB.
Trash the “ProApp 2008-5” Receipt (Library> Receipts) and reinstall. It seems that the installing have not be fully done.
