I am having issues with using the “Export Using Compressor” setting from within FCP.

Once I send a sequence to Compressor, I choose my settings etc, and then before submitting, try to go back into FCP to send another sequence from within the same session.

I am hoping to be able to send multiple sequences for batch conversion, before submitting. If I do one at a time, it works fine, but trying to get back into FCP causes the pinwheel of death.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

I am using FCP 6.0.6, Compressor 3.0.5 and a 1st gen Intel MacPro.

    Thanks in advance.

i have the same issue, but i’m not sure that this is an error.

from what i’ve read, i believe that FCP is simply non-functional while compressor is doing its thing.

i don’t know why exactly, but i’ve accepted it as a simple matter of course.

it would be interesting to know if i’ve been wrong about this all along.

You can get this to work. I setup multiple exports all the time so I can have compressor render while I’m away.

The ‘trick (or thing to pay attention too)’ is when you’re in Compressor-it highlights the jobs and targets in blue. When Compressor is doing this, it needs control of FCP to Preview, estimate, etc. the file that you’re processing. So make sure that Compressor is NOT highlighting ANY file, and you will find you can bounce right back to FCP with no problem. Make sense?

    Good Luck,

Thanks so much! I could have sworn that I had done it before – but it had been a while and felt like maybe I made it up.

I had posted this same question in the Compressor section of the Apple forum – and was told that only FCP ver.7 could do it.

Let me know if it would be alright to repost your answer there – because anyone who reads it will be misinformed.

    Thanks again!
