August 31, 2011 at 5:16 amI am having this same issue and it has been a bear! It seems random and arbitrary. I found a guy who had the same issue a couple years ago and I have an e-mail out to him to see what he found. Here is a link to his post:

I will try the Qmaster cluster recommendation and report back.

August 31, 2011 at 6:07 amRather than send from FCP, try first exporting a quicktime self contained using current settings and then take that file into Compressor.
Apart from the fact that you are not tying up FCP to Compress, it also seems a more robust way to do a long compression.

September 23, 2012 at 8:43 amI set up Compressor for multiple instances in Qmaster, but the cluster option is not showing up when I submit the job. I have share and manage checked as well. What am I not doing?

In the system preferences qmaster settings, make sure you choose “quickcluster with services” and also make sure you press the “start sharing” button.
Then, it should appear in Compressor as a cluster that you can submit to.
Now, I’m not sure that this cures the blockiness problem, but it did in my case. I have a suspicion as to why, but I don’t know for sure. Good luck.
