So I’m still having issues with strobing. I’m using FCP 6 with AJA Kona le interface working in 8 bit uncompressed SD from start to finish. The standard workflow is to cut a bunch of clips onto the FCP timeline (sequence set to 8 bit uncompressed using the AJALH 525 29.97 8 bit preset) and export a quicktime to After Effects using the “current settings” in the export dialog. The footage used is from a 35mm source and has 3:2 pulldown in it. The issue is that when I reposition the footage in after effects and render as FCP 8bit uncompressed, the movie strobes (intermittently) when it is imported back into FCP. I’ve tried positioning the layers in After Effects on odd lines in the y axis and that seems to help sometimes but ultimately when I export my finished graphic files from FCP some of the shots strobe and others don’t, even though they all came from the same original FCP timeline output. I have been battling with this for over a year and it is my one and only frustration with FCP, having moved over from an Avid Meridian system a year ago. The other frustration is that I can’t seem to find any threads where others have had similar problems. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you be a little bit more specific about the problem and your workflow?

It sounds like you are having a problem with the 3:2 pulldown cadence. So how are you handling the 3:2 pulldown during your round trip to AE?
