fcp switching scratch disks all on it’s own…..I’m baffled!
I have only one external fw drive connected to computer and it is set as my scratch disk. In the scratch disk window, that one external fw drive is the ONLY disk showing there. No other disks are showing….not even my system drive. It’s a Lacie 160 GB.
There is about 64 GB free space on the external fw drive. I was rendering and all of a sudden get an error messag that the scratch disk is full. I check the external drive and there are NO render files on that drive (capture footage is there, but no render files). So I check the system drive. There is only 1 GB free space on my system drive!!!! Obviously, FCP somehow switch scratch disks on its own and started putting render files onto my system drive.
Now, here’s the other kicker. I can’t find the render files anywhere. They are not in the FCP documents folder. I can’t find them anywhere.
This is the third time FCP has switched scratch disks to my sytem drive all on it’s own (the set scratch disk has never been near full any of those three times).
If I unmount the external drive, restart FCP, reset that external drive as scratch disk….then it’s fine….captures to it like it’s supposed to. I trashed prefs the first time it did this (about 2 weeks ago).
So, two questions:
1. How can I stop FCP from switching scratch disks over to the system drive all on its own?
2. How do I find those render files on my system drive to move or get rid of them? I can’t work with only 1 GB free space on my computer!
Thanks…velma
