    Dear All,

Hello, I just went through two weeks of installing leopard on my G4 867 mhz desktop and trying to reinstall FCP upgrade to 6.0. It was a big nightmare because I had to kill the install midway or deal with corrupt files in my library. Essentially after the install of FCP 6.0 (which had a strange library problem) ALL my applications would crash if I tried to open them, including itunes. Then, I tried to install my old FCP 5.0 dmg upgrade (I realize I didn’t have all the disks in the middle of the install) and I had to stop midway. AGAIN, all my applications would crash, so I had to do an erase and install of leopard.

Before I installed leopard and tried to do FCP studio 2, I had tiger with FCP 5.0 on the G4. It worked like a charm.

Now I’m wondering if I should give it another shot at installing FCP Studio 2 on my G4, even though I don’t meet the system requirements. Ill be doing only light editing on the g4, but I have a mac book pro that is exactly the same setup and I need them to be on the same version of FCP in order to work smoothly between the two (ie. have one computer for digitizing and exporting — g4) while I do all the efx on the mac book pro.

So, I don’t want to go through the nightmare or having to reinstall my entire operating system again on my G4. Should I ‘risk it’ and install FCP 6 on the G4, or just steer clear all together? I don’t want to have to do a complete install of leopard again, and neither do I want to do an install of my CS2 applications that I just installed last night on my G4..

Finally, if I do steer clear, I have FCP 4.5 on here, but it won’t read any of my DVCPRO HD files because Apple told me I need to be on FCP 5.1 on leopard. The version of quicktime that comes with leopard is too high for FCP 4.5… so I’m in a jam, I can’t even just play the DVCPRO HD files!
    please help!

    thanks

Wow, that was a very lengthy installation. Was that fulltime every day for two weeks?

In all honesty Lili, I feel your pain and I feel bad for you, as I’m sure everyone else here does, but honestly, if you spent two weeks trying to install Leopard and FCP on a computer that you already know does not meet the minimum system requirements, this is not the place for you to get help. You either need to stick with what you’ve got or hire a technician.

I would recommend ether purchasing a newer used machine or better yet a mac mini to use for your digitizing station.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!

Hi, recently try to install FCP 6 upgrade on my G4, but the system told me that the graphics card was not compatible and I also ask me the original numbers when installing the FCP 5 or 4? when I put these numbers, the system told me not recognized them, what can I do?
    (sorry for my bad english)
