  • FCP Studio 2: Really long install time

Hey all, I’m upgrading from FCP Studio 1, currently running FCP 5.1.4 – The first disc went smoothly and now I’m going thru the disc for Soundtrack Pro Audio content. It seems to be humming right along, but the remaining install time is 14 hours! Is this normal? Why in the world would it take that long?

I’m also wondering if it’s really necessary to install all the extra content stuff if I already installed it with FCP Studio 1. Is there even that much new stuff with Studio 2? I hardly even used the extra content from Studio 1.

Now the other question is if I can just quit the installer at this point and re-install without the extra content, or will that mess up the install?

Any help or insight would be appreciated. You can see my Computer and OS specs below, thanks.

For me a FCS2 install is around 2 hours or so.

    Then there are the updates…

    Is like that my friend.
    Takes very long time.
Not the 14 hours but few.

you ask “I’m also wondering if it’s really necessary to install all the extra content stuff if I already installed it with FCP Studio 1. Is there even that much new stuff with Studio 2? I hardly even used the extra content from Studio 1.”
Got to tell you there is a considerable amount of extra content. Personally I find it worth it but it is a judgement call. As to install times. Off the disks if I sit on top of it 2 hours max. But I made disk images and that way it is 30 minutes.

I created a disc image for each of my FCS 2 discs. Sped up the process tremendously.

Thanks for the replies and tips everyone. I will certainly make disc images for the future. I’m now on the 3rd disc of audio content with about 5 hours remaining. So the remaining time went down significantly, but it still feels abnormally long. I’ve been at this for a few hours already. Who’s got time to wait on such a lengthy install process when there is so much real work to be done!?

I’m trying to be patient.. Thanks again for your time.
