FCP startup – “unexpectedly quit”
Yesterday I tried to open Final Cut (v. 4.5) for the first time in a couple of weeks on my G4 Dual 1GHz (OS 10.3.9) and I immediately got the “application has unexpectedly quit” message. I tried restarting repeatedly, but the problem remains.
I’ve run this program without a hitch for two years now. It’s an upgrade from the earlier versions, and I do recall that, when I first installed it, i couldn’t get it to run until finally someone clued me in that there was some sort of bug that I had to eliminate by entering some code or other in Terminal, I think it was.
The only change I’ve done recently that might have caused the problem is that I did some housekeeping in my dock, and deleted the icon for the old FCP 3. Maybe I disrupted the pathway by doing this??? Unfortunately, I can’t reinstate the alias in the dock because I had FCP3 uninstalled a few months ago.
So, do you have any suggestions? Can I cure this by reinstalling 4.5, or even 3.0?Thanks,

Did you delete your preferences?
In you home folder go to library/preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/ and delete the prefs file and the cache file. (or just move them to the desktop if you don’t want to delete them right away.)

Hi, I tried moving FCP 3.0 Prefs, FCP 4.5 Prefs, FCP POA Cache, and FCP MOA cache to the desktop, but the problem remains: “Application has unexpectedly quit” notice pops up.

I know it might sound lame, but do the preferences thing again and be for you try to open FCP, restart the computer. I’m just guessing now. If that doesn’t work, you might try reinstalling FCP, but some other people might have some suggestions you should try before you get to that.

Sorry to say the restart didn’t do the trick. Do you think it matters if both the 3.0 and the 4.5 Preferences and the two different caches are removed? I did take them all out.Larry

Does FCP 3 start up?

No, I had some maintenance done on the G4 a few months ago, and had 3.0 uninstalled at that time. The icon for 3.0 in the dock was left over, so I didn’t think it would matter if I deleted it, but I’m thinking now that this might be the problem. I can’t bring it back into the dock because 3.0 isn’t in the harddrive anymore.
