FCP Spitting Out An NTSC Project As PAL?

I’m not an expert at Final Cut Pro but I have been using it for quite some time… so it took me quite a while to come here. I apologize if readers think this problem could be with other software rather than FCP, and I am willing to repost. I never expected that something so simple could cause a problem, but here goes:
I recently completed a project that included footage pulled from a DVD via Handbrake. The object of the project was to add a film commentary to the footage, export it through Compressor and simply burn it to DVD through Toast. Sounds simple, right? However, the process has become 10x more complicated after the fact.
By the time the project is finished going through Compressor Toast says it needs to be re-encoded because it is in PAL format. It will try to re-encode the files itself, but eventually gives an error saying the DVD-R doesn’t have enough space (despite the fact that Toast reads the original files as fitting with more than enough space left over). I don’t understand why this has happened since the original DVD source was NTSC. The settings in Compressor give no indication of changing the files either.
So here is my question, is there something wrong with the original file in FCP? If so, how did that happen? Is there some way to convert the video file to make it NTSC compatible? I’ve been trying to find a solution for days now and I’m simply not tech savvy enough to figure out what I’m doing wrong.
If anyone has an idea of what’s going on, I would appreciate it more than you can imagine.

Well the frame size is rather odd, something I haven’t worked with before: 852 x 360. The frame rate is 29.97.

Going back to the DVD and reexamining what happens during the Handbrake process, the specifications for the picture settings are as follows:
Source: 720 x 480
Output: 720 x 360
Anamorphic: 853 x 360 strictKeep Aspect Ratio: off
Crop: AutoSo yes, the DVD’s image is 720 x 480. However, why the output is 100 pixels smaller and the anamorphic measurements are put in are beyond me. I’ll be investigating that in the meantime.

It appears that the anamorphic size was locked for some reason, but upon trying to put the DVD through Handbrake again it is unlocked. Must have been a glitch. I suppose that if I run it again it will export at 720 x 304, which appears to be a proper size.

Thanks Dave. I’ll use MPEG Streamclip instead, perhaps. It has more options and (obviously) less fuss.
