I was recently told that rendering HD in FCP is extremely slow compared to windows based systems. More to the point…1.5 hours for a 3.4ghz Intel (single) vs 6.5 hours for a dual 2.5G5. It was the same clip and by ‘render’ I admist I’m not sure I know what is meant. I assume it is just the video being converted out to another HD file (no filters, text, graphics).

I have not worked with HD video at all, nor have I worked with Vegas or Premier Pro on the windows side of things. Are these numbers about what one would expect? If so, it seems FCP is really behind in terms of HD performance. If not…what might cause such a disparity in performance of these systems?

I can talk about an initial comparison of the same clips on our FCP & Avid AdrenalinesHDs (on a PC): FCP is WAY faster (4-5X faster).
