    First, Hello everybody!
My first post here, and before I start with what gives me a trouble, I would like to thank you all, and to express my gratitude to this forum and people here, who are helping us with their knowlegde and expertise to get us the upper hand in the battles with these bloody mashines that suppose to make our lives easier but very often create a quite a nightmare out of it
    🙂

    My problem:

I am trying to help a friend to complete a short documentary that was changing hands many time (I know, me stupido:), and am encountaring many problems that I can’t figure out what’s wrong.

This might be complicated but let me try:

I am suppose to assemble 4 clips with some opening credits in FCP 6 and than export it to DVD.

The original footage was shot on the Sony XDCAM EX-1 and edited in adobe premiere (by someone else).
4 clips that make a movie, and that I was give to, are exported from premiere, as a QT mov in sorensen video 3 codec , 1920×1080.

The opening credits is only one jpg pic.
    🙂

When opened in QT, clips are playing with a jerkiness.

Now, the main problem is in the timeline:

When I import clips in FCP, and later on put them on the time line, the computer is reporting differences in settings of the sequance and clips. When asked if I want to change settings to be the same I say YES!

My project (and therefore sequence, right?) is initialy set to XDCAM HD 1090i60 VBR which I think is the proper one for the original footage. Now, I don’t know what kind of change the computer is making in order to make sequence and clips settings compatible and the same, but at the end, clips are playing propertly in the time line.
Though in the canvas window picture is still looking jerky (I don’t have access to external monitor)?!?

The second problem starts when I start putting together the opening credits, which is really only in the simple form:

    slug(cross dissolve)>jpeg(cross dissolve)>slugto clips.

The first unusual thing is that it doesn’t play effects in RT (which I thought is pretty simple effect: cross dissolves from black slug to jpg and back), so i have to render it.
    ???

After I render it, when playing, as soon as cursor hits CD in the timeline, it reports dropped frame (on the still picture?) and than doesn’t shows anything, like the thing is not rendered at all, that it, pisture looks like it’s melting?

To make it more confusing, when I open a new sequence and put at the begining of the timeline, slug>jpg>slug, with dissolves in the same manner like previous, and hit PLAY, canvas and time line plays it in RT perfectly without drop frames or any other program!!!

But than ,if I put clips in the same time line, fcp can not play them (recognize them) at all, but instead it’s asking me for a render (red line on top of the clips).

    ???

Anybody any clue what is the problem here?

I would deeply appreciated if you give me any hint how to solve it!!!

    TIA

    Aleks

    🙂
