I need a basic step by step guideline for setting up FCP 6.0 so that I can import from my new Sony PDW700.
I have the application software disc from Sony, where do I put the files?
Once I have imported the files to the proper place, what are the steps needed to import files from the camcorder via firewire?
Is translation done automatically from XML to Quicktime.
What format are the proxy files and how does FCP deal with them?

I am primarily a shooter, and currently use FCP as a basic tool for rough cutting material I have shot. So when I say I need a basic step by step guideline remember you are helping a “lens monkey” not an editor.

You can also ask in the SONYCinealta Forum in the COW.

[Jay Kuntz] “I have the application software disc from Sony, where do I put the files?”

I wouldn’t use that disc myself – get the latest version of the XDCAM transfer software from the Sony website instead. The current version of XDCAM Transfer is 2.9.0

Good idea to download newest version…I think.
Loading update went smooth, but in the SONY XDCAM TRANSFER SET UP window it showed that I was missing XDCAM EX codec and XDCAN HD422 codec.
I was able to access the disc via fw on the cam but it only shows proxys and on each clip is NO CODEC.
Do I need to get the HD422 and EX codecs from somewhere else?
Is this a setting on the install I overlooked?
I want the clips as QT files right?

    Hi Jay,
You need to update FC to 6.02 at least.
A good opportunity, because FC 6.0 is very buggy.

The earlier advice seemed to work and all seems to be working fine.
