I’m about to output a file from FCP 5.1.2 to BetaSP for standard def television broadcast. My question is regards to the correct sequence settings I should be using.

The broadcaster will accept standard definition 4 x 3 material. The video portion of my spot was all created at another company using the ‘animation’ compressor with a 720 x 486 frame size and pixel aspect stated as NTSC-CCIR 601.

Which aspect ration should I be setting my FCP sequence settings to:
    NTSC 4:3 or
    CCIR 601 NTSC 40:27 or
    CCIR 601 NTSC sq. 4:3

Also which Quicktime Video compressor setting should I be using to provide the best possible quality for broadcast? :
Animation (as the animation house used) or
    Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The animation codec is not a realtime codec in FCP, nor is it really a preferred QT editing codec. Use the Easy Setup and select Uncompressed 8-bit 48 kHz – it will properly set the aspect ratio for you, which is CCIR 601 NTSC (40:27).
