I’ll import a music track from a cd, make some edits to it (take out a verse and chorus etc.) and when FCP5 renders it, the music edit jumps all around (plays parts of the song I didn’t even want in a needle skip fashion). It doesn’t always do this, but enough to be really irritating. I can usually tell it’s going to happen because when it goes to render audio, the estimated time says 35 hours or something way inflated for a five minute edit. Throwing preferences hasn’t made a difference. I usually have to throw all my renders away and hope it works next time. Or sometimes I’ll throw a filter on and disable it so it forces a re-render. Anyone have any ideas.

did you convert the song to something other than 16bit 48k?

All I did was copy a CD track onto my media drive and then import it into FCP. This same issue also happens with audio tracks digitized off tape (DV and DVCAM). The video track does not jump around however.

That CD track is 44.1 audio. Fcp likes 48k audio. Open the CD track in quicktime, go to file>export choose sound to aiff in the drop down menu in the bottom, hit options, and choose Linear PCM 48,000 kHz for the rate, and 16 bits for the sample size. Was the CD an Mp3 cd by chance? FCP does not like Mp3s.

Do you have a separate media drive? If not get one. Do not attempt to edit off of your system drive.

The thing is that when I digitize off DVCAM (which is 48k audio I think) over a firewire, the audio will still re-arrange itself.

I am using an external media drive.

Well, Scott sounds like you have a major problem of the likes I have never heard of before. I’d start by quitting FCP, trashing your preferences and delete all of your render files.

I’ve done all that stuff. Maybe it’s time to reinstall FCP. The weird thing is that I see this happen on two completely seperate systems.

Hey Scott. I know it’s been 7 years haha but have you fixed this issue? I’m using FCP7 because i refuse to upgrade but I’m having the same problem with ALOT of different types of audio.

    If you could help THANKS!
