FCP reading timecode breaks that aren’t there
Hey guys. I’ve been looking around for awhile now trying to find someone with the same problem, but can’t find any help. Maybe one of you have come across this problem and could offer some:
I am using a Sony HVR-Z5U as a deck to capture footage in FCP 7.0.2. I am using a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card to capture the footage as “Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94 – Apple ProRes”. I’m using this set-up to log and capture. After logging, I go to do a batch capture and I am inundated with broken timecodes. The problem is that it is sensing broken timecodes in the middle of the clip where there shouldn’t be any. It is also sensing them seemingly at random as when I attempt to recapture, timecode breaks are located in different places within the clip. Another odd thing about this, when a timecode break is encountered the captured clip retains its original duration except that when you reach where the break was located everything turns black for the remainder of the clip’s duration. Then, the new clip that is created automatically to continue the capture process also retains that same duration and when it reaches the proper media out point, it also goes to black for the rest of the clips duration.
I’ve tried trashing my preferences, but beyond that, I am in the dark on this. It’s more annoying than anything as it is messing with my workflow. Any help will be greatly appreciated 🙂

Hi,
This sounds like drop-out caused TC breaks. No uncommon in long GOP HDV. You could try cleaning the heads. That won’t help if dirty heads compromised the recording, or surface defects in the tape, but it is worth a try.Scott Sheriff
