  • FCP quits upon initializing log & capture

I’m attempting to log 24F HD footage directly from a Canon XH-A1 via firewire. A/V settings should be correct (HDV 1080 60i), but every time I open the log and capture window the program “quits unexpectedly.” Any help appreciated.

    iMac 2.4 GHz
    OS X 10.5.1
    FCP 5.0.4

I’ve run into this many times. First delete the preferences they are located in:
    User Account > Library>Preferences.

    Delete these files:
    com.apple.finalcutpro.plist
Final Cut Pro User Data (Folder)

If the above doesn’t help you might need to reinstall Final Cut Pro. If this is needed, drag the application to the trash, then go into Macintosh HD>Library>Receipts

    Delete this file:
    FinalCutPro.pkg

    Hope this helps

Hello Steven and thank you for the response. I called Apple’s tech support and I was told that my version of FCP simply isn’t compatible with the Intel processors on my iMac, and that the only solution to this is to buy the new Final Cut Studio 2. I’ve worked with SD material on this system before and didn’t run into any problems. HD however, seems to be a whole different monster. Obviously, if there is any way around spending the $1300 for FCP6 I would very much like to know. Anything you’re aware of?
