FCP QT > DigiBeta – What’s the best option for me?
Hello,
I’ve searched around but haven’t found exactly the answer I’m hoping for. My short film is screening at a festival and I need a DigiBeta output. The film was shot on Super 16mm film, then transferred to ProRes 422 HD files and edited in FCP 6 on my laptop. I’ve been in touch with a post house about making the transfer and they told me simply to bring in a QT.
My question is this: what sort of QT output should I be making from FCP 6 to bring to make this DigiBeta copy? There are obviously a ton of options via QuickTime Conversion or simply File>Export>QuickTime and custom “Best” sort of settings, as well as a large number of ProRes HQ options, but I’m not sure which to use.

The answer is simple… First you need to find out exactly which I/O card the facility uses, with the primary focus on the issue of does it do down-conversion. If the card does it, then you can just export a QT at current settings and bring that to the facility for output to D-beta. If their card doesn’t do down-conversion, then either you or the facility will have to do it with software, i.e. FCP or preferably Compressor.

Best to ask the post house doing the work this question.
Chances are they want a ProRes quicktime. Just Export -> quicktime movie -> current settings. That will make a clone of your trailer in the flavor of ProRes you are cutting in.
