    Joel,

Like you, I am a one man shop. When I need to buy more licenses I buy more licenses. It’s just the cost of doing business.

Sorry Joel you still cannot use them both at the same time. No ifs, ands or buts!!!

Like Walter said, one of your unedited weddings will pay for a full license. I’m sure your clients are booking the edited packages.

Kind of makes you wonder IF he’ll ask a second question…

[Joel Peregrine] “And if you work on two laptops? Arbitrarily denied.”

Wrong. You cannot work on two computers AT THE SAME TIME. Period. doesn’t matter what those two computers are.

The reasoning for that license is to allow you to work mobile via the laptop or in an office via the tower. Not using both at the same time.

[Joel Peregrine] “This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you.

And if you work on two laptops? Arbitrarily denied.”

Sorry Joel, but your argument entirely ignores the intent of the Apple license.

The intent is not to provide two licenses to be used on separate computers concurrently. Instead, Apple understands that users need to take their business on the road from time to time via laptop, and they have decided to accommodate by officially recognizing and allowing users to do that without being in violation of their EULA. There are many other software vendors who are not so accommodating, and under terms of their licensing users can only install on one machine, period.

In my case on two laptops the EULA does not allow two installations – only a desktop and a laptop. So no matter how I choose to operate I’m arbitrarily restricted from operating within the guidelines. That is my point. I will state publicly that I have FSC loaded on two laptops and feel I’m ethically within the realm of Apple’s anti-piracy goals. I wouldn’t be surprised if this allowance changes, either by a wording adjustment specifying two computers rather than making the platform distinction or by restricting the use of a license to strictly one machine only.

    I’m having a hard time disagreeing with Joel’s point…

You are. It’s WHEN YOU USE BOTH OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME, that you step outside that realm.

Not sure how many more times any of us has to say that. The installation isn’t the issue. The use of two at the exact same time is.

So what about the apple script “FCP dupe”. Which lets you open multiple copies of FCP on a single machine?
