Call me crazy, but I have tried everything and read many threads… I still cannot get it going. I am running FCP5, editing a project in HDV and trying to get the signal out to my cameras (fx1 & a1u) via firewire with no luck. Logging and capturing works no problem and both cameras are recognized. The best I have managed to do so far is get audio and a frozen image n one camera (a1u). I imagine that I have missed one setting somewhere, but it is killing me! Someone please help end this frustration! Please please please!!!!

You have a very common problem. In order to monitor HDV thru Final Cut Pro, you must have a capture card such as any of the AJA or Blackmagic cards to monitor HDV. Firewire will not work for monitoring HDV. This is the big headache that everybody whose using HDV only and a firewire connection is finding out.

The only other possibility is to monitor the video out of your camera or deck via the composite or S-Video outputs. But as for monitoring thru FCP, forget it unless you have a capture card capable of monitoring HDV.
