  • FCP, other apps hanging! Recent update?

    Hello fellow Cows,

Our studio has several FCP stations, and two days ago we installed the big bundle of Apple Software Updates that became available. Now, FCP hangs after getting a little way into the startup screen, and other apps are acting buggy as well – After Effects seems laggy and randomly crashes etc.

I don’t know for sure that these issues are related to the big bundle of updates, but it sure is coincidental that it is happening on several machines at once.

Anyone having similar problems or have any suggestions? I’ve already tried the old “delete prefs/repair permissions” route of fixes, still nothing…

What version of everything are you on? Are you on a SAN or network of some sort?

    Brendan:
I too am experiencing FCP Studio 2.0 hanging on start up after loading all those updates just recently. If I let it sit and spin, it eventually fires up, takes between 1-3 minutes. I haven’t noticed any lag with other apps though.

Why the heck did you install the slew of updates? If things are working fine, you SHOULD NOT install the updates. OR, if you do, you need to take the appropriate precautions.

I suppose you don’t hang out here enough to know this…and I hope this prompts you to hang out more, as useful information is tossed about daily. I don’t mean to sound flippant about all of this, I guess I am too used to seeing this same issue over and over and over again…updates causing issues…and responding with the same advice over and over and over again.

Solution? Back up your files, and then erase and install the previous working version of your OS and FCP versions. DO NOT upgrade if things are working, unless a new feature that you need becomes available. And CLONE your system drive before you update…just in case.
