I plan to try and run the latest version of FCP and DVD Studio Pro on a G4 powerbook with OSX Tiger for editing DV.

I was wondering how to do a storage and video preview setup. I have a PCMCIA firewire card I bought a while back so I was wondering if I could use that to do video previews and a G-raid or G-drive hooked to the built in firewire 800/400 to avoid bus comflicts.

I also wondered if I’ll notice any speed difference on that computer doing DV editing with only a few layers on the two disk G-raid vs. just one drive in a FW400 enclosure.

Your setup sounds fine. You’d see a bit more RT effects of layered video with the RAID over the other… Otherwise, the app should feel exactly the same.

There should be no problem. I’m using only built-in firewire ports – 400 for camera/deck connection and 800 for LaCie desktop drive. Works great on G4 PB on Panther. It’s even fast enough for multiclip editing with two DV streams.
