  • FCP not seeing downconverting HDV to DV

I have a Sony HDV deck that I have set up to downconvert HDV footage into FCP as DV footage. I have switched the deck set up to play out as DV ftg and it appears right. However FCPP will not see it in either the HDV log & capture window or the DV & DV50 log & capture windows. I can get deck control but no footage. Is there a trick that I am missing?

    I’m working in FCP 5.0 on a G5.

    Thanks

Lee- First, quit out of FCP then turn your deck off and disconnect the firewire cable. Turn the deck back on again with your firewire cable disconnected. Do not reconnect until you have all the i/o settings correct. . Go to the IN/OUT REC menu on the deck. Set VCR HDV/DV to AUTO. Rotate down to i.LINK CONV and set to ON. Rotate down to DOWN CONVERT and choose the format you want to edit in; squeeze, letterbox, edge crop.

Now plug the firewire cable into the computer THEN plug the firewire into the deck.

Launch your FCP5 project. In FCP go to audio/video settings log and capture tab and set your proper settings.

    Hope this solves the issue.

Thanks so much, Jerry. I had just figured it out when I saw your e-mail. It is funny. In the instructions for the HDV ddeck they tell you to turn the VCR HDV/DVV setting to DV instead of Auto…WHICH IS WRONG as you know. It won’t see it that way. Your way works perfectly. Sony needs to fix their instructions:)

    Thanks Again
