FCP not recognizing cam start/stop
Hello,
I’m working in HDV and I’ve captured footage shot on a Sony V1U with no problem. FCP 6.0 recognizes the start/stops and it’s a great feature.However, I’m now loading HDV footage shot on a Canon HV10 and I cannot get FCP to recognize the start/stops anymore. Any ideas about how to troubleshoot this? The FCP clip settings are still marked “create new clip on Start/Stop”. And I’ve tried using a Canon camera to load in, but nothing seems to be working yet.

i wonder if the camera needs to have it’s date & time set for this to work,
(like the DV Start/Stop detect function does)you can probably turn on a data display on the camera to see if it;s been set or not.

Nick, thanks for the reply.
So what you’re saying is that if the date&time was not set on the camera when the footage was originally shot, then the start/stop function does not work in FCP? -

by golly I think you’ve nailed it. I went back and checked the footage and wouldn’t you know, none of it had a date&time stamp. So that explains why FCP couldn’t create new clips on start/stop.It’s very satisfying to have an answer to this problem. thanks again!

check out this new Scene detector app:
https://www.scene-detector.com/export an XML of your clip from FCP,
open it in Scene detector and run it,
it will make a new XML file that will open a new version of your clip in your FCP project with markers on all the scene changes.very simple to use, and relatively accurate (it analyses the image itself)
