FCP Media (not) Offline but re-naming clips
Here is what is what is going on. One of our editors is working on a project that was shot on AF-100 (AVC HD format). He logged and transfer all the footage without any issues. The next day into the edit, he had to reboot. When calling the project up again, some 40-50 files are now offline. When looking into the capture scratch folder, the clip name is still there but it is different media.
EXAMPLE – Clip 153 is off line. Clip 153 has a starting TC of hour 2. In the FCP capture scratch Clip 153 is there but with a TC starting at hour 5 and totally different shot done later in the day.
The editor is forced to re-log & transfer those offline clips. After finishing the project he worked on another without any issues but now another project (shot on AF-100) has come in and it again has “re-named” clips.
We are on a Xsan server with 3 FCP7 clients. The other 2 clients have not had any of these same troubles but if one was to open the same project, it will have the same result.
Has anyone had anything happen to them like this? And if so, how can this be corrected?

What I’ve seen with the AVCHD format, no matter what camera is used, is that when you switch cards and start recording on a new one, the number starts all over again. If you have multiple cards in your project, then you’ll have multiple clip names. A few Clip #1, Clip #48, Clip #153. And then FCP might get confused and connect to the wrong #153.
Solution? In the Log and Transfer interface, choose the option to rename the clips when you import. Rename them to match the reel…so the REEL NAME_Clip #. This way you can separate out what clip is from where.
