  • FCP log and capture HDV

    hi, I have fcp 5.1 running on a g5 Dual 2ghz System 10.4.11

I have the same problem with both a CanonXH A1 and a Sony Fx1.
when I go to log and capture it says that I cannot initialize the deck.

on the camera I have specified HDV under signal setup (I had to remove the cable from the camera to get that setting to be available) once I put the cable back into the camera the setting goes gray and returns to “STD…”

I’ve tried this several times and it always returns to STD when the cable is attached. The cable is the correct one. any ideas?

    thanks

    Try this:
    1) Set camera to CAMERA MODE. Set camera to HDV Mode.
    2) Switch camera to VCR Mode.
    3) Set Signal STD to “HDV”.
    4) Attach FireWire cable to camera
    5) Trash FCP prefs
In ~/Library/Preferences (the ~ is your username), delete: com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
In ~Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/, delete: Final Cut Pro 5 Prefs, Final Cut Pro Obj Cache, Final Cut Pro Prof Cache.
    6) Attach other end of FW cable to computer
    7) Start up FCP, use Easy Setup of “HDV 1080i 60”
    8) Go to Log And Capture Mode and start capturing.

Let us know if you still have problems.

I beat my head against the wall for 2 days over a brand new belkin cable. Don’t Use Belkin Cables!!!

I have also had intermittent problems when other firewire devices were connected to the mac while trying to capture. I would have to disconnect my audio interface and reboot before capturing HDV, Sony or Canon. Try disconnecting all other firewire devices while capturing.

thank you much. I have a hunch alot of this has to do with the firewire cable. I have gotten it to work and now cannot.

    cheers

alright. well here are my findings.
I did everything one by one. I get a message after restarting FCP and doing the HDV setup…

“unable to locate the following external devices:
    HDV (1440×1080) 60i

your system configuration may have changed, or your deck/camera may be disconnected or turned off.”

I’ve double checked the firewire cable with my GL 2 and it’ works fine so that’s not it. I see that there is an option for a HDV firewire cable or an HD firewire yet the apple store told me that there is no HD firewire cable. anyway I am unable to capture again. I am in 6.0 now too. Just trying anything.

    thanks much for your advice.
