I am having a problem with FCP exporting sections of the timeline I want.

Basically, in order to test various compressions and learn about them, I have been exporting small sections (<30 seconds) of an edited piece from the timeline ALOT.

Well, for some reason, when I try to export different sections of the timeline, FCP starts reverting back to exporting a section I had exported numerous times a while ago. Basically, it ignores the In and Out points I have set, and seems to revert back to earlier ones; from what I can tell, much earlier ones.

It only seems to do this with compressions other than my Current Settings, and then some compressions will work, and others won't. ie, DVCPRO HD - 720p60 never seems to work, but the Apple Intermediate ones sometimes do.

I make sure that I do not have any clips on the timeline highlighted, and I have tried to move the in and out points a bit, to no avail. A more experienced FCP person I asked suggested I make sure to save the project first, but that does not seem to help.

    I also tried restarting FCP.

Any ideas what the issue might be and how to fix it? Any help is appreciated.

Not a clue. but I’d create a lossless version of the piece you want to test and export it just once.

You really don’t have to do any of this research yourself, it’s all been done. Google “Jan Ozer” and study his published articles form several magazines. You can confidently buy his incredibly dense and all-inclusive DVD if you expect to be doing lots of compression for many different clients and formats.

You may have tried this already but did you do a cmd+shift+A to deselect everything before you did the export?
