    hi gentlement,
I have searched into the post and I don’t find exactly what i was looking since mostly deals with HD.

I want to set a DVCpro 50 editing station for some 30 min projects that I will be having…

I was thinking of a dual 2.8 quad base system with the 8800 gpx card….
buy additional ram from 3party, additional card for an internal raid
one 23 inch and one old 20 inch formac monitor for preview

    now my questions:

1 – would the card support the additional monitor for NTSC preview (don’t have the deck)

2 – Internal raid combination for DVDpro 50?

3 – Additional card? don’t need it for input since i’ll borrow a deck for input and output….

4 – this set up would give me realtime editing? playback and output?

Really confused.,,, please help me gurus…

[willy pimentel] “1 – would the card support the additional monitor for NTSC preview (don’t have the deck) “

The graphics card will not. If you’re only dealing in SD footage, try to find a used SD card from AJA or Blackmagic Design off ebay or something. Or get the Blackmagic Intensity Pro for $350.

[willy pimentel] “2 – Internal raid combination for DVDpro 50? “

DVCPRO50 is only about 6MB/sec. A Seagate 7200.11 drive can do over 90MB/sec. That’s like 15 streams of DVCPRO50 off of one drive. You don’t really need a RAID unless you want backup protection incase a drive dies. You could go with the CalDigit RAID card and create a 2 TB RAID 5 using three internal 1TB drives. Anyways, there are a lot of options.

[willy pimentel] “3 – Additional card? don’t need it for input since i’ll borrow a deck for input and output…. “

Just for outputting to a SD broadcast monitor.

An iMac would give you realtime editing with DVCPRO50. What you’re getting will be rocking!
