FCP HD, I want to apply transition between a photo and video clip, how long should…
Posted by Sebastian Knight on May 17, 2005 at 8:46 pmI want to apply transition between a photo and video clip, how long should I make the photo? Are there any rules, what resolution should the image be? I know the default is 10 seconds.
Thanks in advance for your reply to my post.

The length of the photo is determined by your project and what you’re doing with the photo.
Resolution should be 72dpi and a minimum 720×486 frame size.

May 17, 2005 at 11:53 pmIf you are using music, pick a time that works with it. Count the beats in each measure (typically four) and time how long that is. Then multiply if by four. Usually I count off 16 measures of 4 using a stop watch (or measure the time in your timeline) and divide that by 4 to get how long 4 measures last. Try that as a starting point. Then pick the length of your tranisition to “feel” right to the music. Try to keep everything on the beat. If it’s important that people see what’s in each image, you might want them to be up there longer – perhaps 8 measures. If you want to create impressions with faster moving images, try 2 measures of 4 or even 1 measure. Play around until it looks right to you.
