[Aprildentist] “I did a security update a few days ago from Apple, but that just required typing in my password.”

I wonder if this update somehow reset your ownership permissions to “read only.” How else would they have become changed. What do you think, Jeremy?

I think that had to be it. Like I said I had problems like that with Panther (10.3) just randomly changing privileges for seemingly no apparent reason. I know this shouldn’t be possible, but I could not track down the problem. Also, I avoided 10.3.9, too many reports of funkiness.

The ignore ownership is a great suggestion, but this seems to have happened on her boot disk. It must have been the update that did this. Next time it happens she’ll know what to do now. Another thing to do is to is to hit the ‘apply to enclosed items’ button, but only do this on specific folders with your FCP data in it, I wouldn’t do it to the whole system disk with system files, even though it shouldn’t hurt anything.

Keep me updated on your project April, sounds interesting. If you have any other questions about updating or anything at all, feel free to post back.

Agreement. What with the recent talk of a couple of Mac Trojans floating around it wouldn’t be a good idea to allow file ownership to be ignored for system files.
    BTW, great job Jeremy 🙂

I always thought the Cow was great, when I had questions like “how do I stop still images made from video from shaking?” —
now that I had a REAL issue, over which I shed a few tears today, I think the world of it.

    Thanks again x10
