I’m pretty new to FCP in general, but I’m getting the hang of it, so bear with me. I’ve consistently found that when I export a timeline to Compressor for encoding to DVD, FCP freezes up and eventually crashes, which then seems to kill my ability to encode the timeline I just sent.

This is a 2-month-old Dual 3.2GHz Xeon octo core, 4GB RAM (which I’m thinking is too low now), OSX 10.5.6

The timeline I’m having issues with currently is ProRes NTSC (not HQ), very simple, very few effects. I’ve had the same issue with HD timelines as well.

I’ve lurked the forums for answers, but most seems out of date. Thanks!

Is that something people do pretty consistently? It sorta reminds me of how Avids can (or could) shoot something directly to Sorenson Squeeze, but in practice it generally didn’t work right, and using QT Reference files was the way to go.

That’s pretty much how any app on the mac or pc works. All it means is open in the app you dragged it to. Nothing special. What is special is that he’s exporting a quicktime, and then using compressor outside of FCP. That’s the preferred way of doing it, since you can’t use FCP while compressor is running if you export directly to compressor. It’s also about 10 times faster.
