FCP external hard drive
I have uploaded video footage onto the desk top for FCP to read. To save space on my desk top, how do I export the footage to an external hard drive that I can read it from?

You never should use media on your boot drive, everything should be on an internal or external drive, you just drag and drop it.

As far as what to drag and drop. should I just drag the titled FCP icon off the desk top and keep that in the hard drive? or do I have to actually transfer all the data

The most common workflow is to keep FCP project files on the boot drive and all your media and render files on another drive or RAID.
