I have been an Avid editor for years.
I want to learn FCP, and will be buying a MacPro Book , but don’t know if I should get the FCP Express version or the FCP Pro Studio.
If I buy the Express, will I get a good basic training on the Pro Studio version? In other words, can I learn FCP on the Express version?
    thanks.

Everything you’d learn in FCE would serve you in FCP. The application’s operations are almost identical. You can do more in FCP, but nothing in FCE is different.

    All the best,

But bear in mind that FCE will lock you in to working in DV only.

The extra money is worth it for FCP Studio, especially because of the extra software you get – it’s almost like six times the potential productivity for no where near six times the price…
