I am putting together for the first time, my very own “full blown” editing suite. Final Cut PRO, Aja Kona 2, and Apple’s XServe Raid are my choices. I am also considering a lease option for this equipment, thinking that at the end of the lease I may want to explore with new “up to date” technology.
Since this is my first time at this, I would like to read recomedations and advices from the forum. Is lease a good alternative for this type of equipment? to be in business, with a good variety of formats and solution, is the Kona2,FCP, Xserve Raid a good combination?

Many thanks in advance, this is quite a time for me, and I want to be absolutely sure about the decisions I’ll be making.

    Thanks

Well considering you are a digital brain, as per your name identification, you have chosen the excellent AJA Kona 2, yet if you are purchasing a new system, this is a product that works in the now outdated MAC G5 PCI-X computers. The new Apple G5 PCI Express computers use the AJA Kona 3.
Final Cut Pro is only sold now as Final Cut Studio, and the Apple XServe RAID is a very expensive drive array – can you afford this product ?
You have not discussed what VTR’s you will purchase, how you will display your video signal, what audio monitoring equipment you will use, what sync generator you intend to purchase, etc.

Need a lot more information such as what formats are you working with? What VTR’s do you own, plan to own? What monitors do you plan to use, video and audio.

Also, Kona 2 is for the PCI-X machines. If you’re buying PCIe, then you need the Kona 3 or the Kona LHe.

As for leasing, I don’t do that anymore. I tend to swap out my computers every 18 months or less, so I just purchase everything now or go with a loan. Better for me to be able to sell the stuff later.
